Popular cafe Moran’s is closing its doors, just over a year after re-opening after a gap of 13 years.
Instead, proprietors Stephen and Della Moran will concentrate on their Dining Club evenings.
Moran’s first opened its doors in 1989, but closed in 1997 after Della was diagnosed with cancer.
After focussing on the outside catering side of the business, Della Stephen re-opened their restaurant in June last year as Moran’s Espresso.
But after another health scare, the couple have decided to close the daytime business at the end of trading on Saturday.
In an email to customers, the couple wrote: “Recently (Della) has had a similar scare although fortunately, following a few tests we are happy to say all is well.
“Notwithstanding, as a result of this and after a lot of soul searching we have decided to close our daytime business with effect Saturday July 19, which coincidently is Marlborough Jazz Festival.
“Moving onto our very popular dine evenings. Having spoken with many of our new and old customers there appears to be a greater demand for these (currently with 400 members). Therefore these will continue for the foreseeable future.”
Dining Club evenings will be held on August 28, 29 and 30, and on September 25, 26, 27. For more information, log on to www.facebook.com/Moransespresso
