Hope and Homes for Children, a Wiltshire based charity, was last week presented with a cheque for £10,367 by the Vale of Pewsey Support Group. This staggering amount is the result of two years’ fundraising by the group.
Olivia Simson, Event Executive at Hope and Homes for Children received the cheque from Committee members Alison Netherclift, Liz Johnson, Sally Brown and Barbara Reilly.
Sophie Parry, Head of Community Fundraising, said, “It is so wonderful to have such an engaged and passionate group of individuals who fundraise all year round hosting wonderful events.
These critical funds enable vulnerable children to grow up in safe and loving families, giving them a second chance for a happy childhood. So thank you so much to all contributors to the Vale of Pewsey Support Group for helping the charity to continue to transform the lives of children in the world’s poorest communities.”
The Vale of Pewsey Support Group has been raising funds for Hope and Homes for Children for many years. Their fundraising events range from Christmas Wreath Making to Pamper Days and Annual Carol Concerts, held in Marlborough College Chapel.
According to the charity, an estimated eight million children are locked away in shocking overseas orphanages, but 80 per cent of these children are not orphans. Most have been estranged from their families because of poverty, discrimination or disability. Sixty years of scientific research shows that, tragically, children in orphanages are exposed to greater levels of neglect, abuse and even trafficking.
Hope and Homes for Children will use the funds raised to support their many projects helping vulnerable children in Eastern Europe and parts of Africa, with the focus on closing orphanages and institutions and placing children into loving families.
The Vale of Pewsey Support Group’s fundraising events this year will include; a Midsummer Walk on Saturday June 23 starting at 10.00 from The Swan at Wilton; a Quiz Night and Supper at Manningford Bruce Village Hall on September 8 and the annual Carol Concert at Marlborough College Chapel, Saturday 15 December at 16.00.
