Three Town Council grant award cheques handed out this week to successful applicant groups
Three grant award cheques were handed over to successful Marlborough area groups this week by Mayor Mervyn Hall. They were to the Savernake Explorer Scouts, Marlborough Poverty Action Group and Marlborough St Mary's (see story here).
Marlborough Poverty Action Group (MPAG) is an independent charitable organisation raising concerns about the lack of provision for the homeless and young children. Its overall aim is to help relieve and prevent poverty in the Marlborough area. The Town Council awarded the group £500 which was handed over to Rachel Rosedale and Revd Janneke Blokland just ahead of the Area Board on Tuesday, 23 July. This funding will be towards a day trip for selected families (about 35 children and their families) to Marwell Zoo near Winchester. MPAG plans for this year include working with the Foodbank to provide lunches during the summer holidays for families with children qualifying for free school meals as well as supporting families so that children can participate in the CampActiv8 programme at Marlborough Leisure Centre.
The Savernake Explorer Scouts award cheque of £800 was handed over by the Mayor to Scout Leader, Peter Wilkinson just ahead of the Area Board on Tuesday, 23 July. The grant will be used towards creating secure storage for camping equipment and games and activity resources at their regular meeting place which is now at the Marlborough Cricket Club ground at Savernake. As noted in our earlier story Marlborough St Mary's was awarded £600 to go towards outdoor play equipment which can be used daily by pupils year-round. Its une won't be restricted purely to Marlborough St Mary's pupils. Groups that use the school's facilities such as Cubs, Scouts, Marlborough Youth Football Club and others will also benefit from this award.
Every year the Town Council's awards budget is there for any community or voluntary group working towards projects in the parish of Marlborough and Manton to apply for funding. Not all of this year's budget has been committed, there’s still a balance of £4,700 remaining so to find out how an award application can be made click here to visit the relevant section on the Town Council website where guidance about criteria and application forms can be downloaded.
