It was prizes all round for Marlborough at the South West in Bloom (SWiB) awards ceremony in Newquay (Friday, October 11) – including the Gold Award for the town.
The town’s community groups swept up awards, the town’s pubs won accolades and our Mayor, Cllr Mervyn Hall was invited onto the stage to receive the coveted Gold Award from Bloom Patrons, Lord and Lady Fellowes.
Marlborough in Bloom has every right to be proud for helping to steer the town towards another successful entry into this important regional Royal Horticultural Society competition. Their committee chair, Anne Lovett, and Secretary, Diana Whitcutt, sat alongside the Mayor and his Mayoress with Assistant Town Clerk, Clare Harris, to listen to fabulous comments on how well Marlborough, its businesses and community had done.
The news travelled fast from Newquay and the President of Marlborough in Bloom, Steve Pascall, was delighted: “This is tremendous for Marlborough in Bloom. Our committee members, It’s Your Neighbourhood groups and community volunteers all work so hard towards this competition.”
“Let’s not forget the huge effort and dedication of the Town Council Grounds Team too. We couldn’t do it without them!”
Marlborough first entered the competition in 2014 and has consistently been given top awards.
As soon as the news of the awards was received, the Town Council issued a statement: “The Town Council would like to congratulate Marlborough in Bloom, all entrants in the It’s Your Neighourhood categories, businesses and all those volunteers who turn out to weed, fundraise, litter pick and help keep up such high standards. Well done all round.”
The awards and prizes come in a variety of categories and levels.
