Digging for AldbourneDigging for Britain, the annual BBC Television review of the year's major archaeology projects, is being broadcast over several weeks on BBC FOUR - and has a special local interest.
On December 11 Professor Alice Roberts will introduce the series' special programme of World War Two related archaeology. This will include a report about this summer's dig on Aldbourne's football field - where in 1943 and 1944 American troops of the famous Band of Brothers 'Easy Company' were based.
As marlborough.news reported, the dig was carried out by Operation Nightingale which uses heritage based projects to promote physical and psychological wellbeing of present and former members of the armed forces.
The finds that will be shown and explained on the programme, have been returned to the village and after conservation work, they will be on show at the Aldbourne Heritage centre in 2020.
You can read more about the Band of Brothers dig on the Aldbourne Archive blog.
